Hi. / Hello.

안녕하세요

(Ahn-nyung-ha-se-yo)

This Is the most common way to greet someone. It can be used in the morning, afternoon and evening. Moreover, if you are in a business meeting or giving a public speech you can use:

안녕하십니까.

With close friends you can say:

안녕.

This is informal and shouldn’t be used with people older than you.

Nice to meet you.

처음 뵙겠습니다

When you meet someone for the first time, you can say this. It means: ” I’am meeting you for the first time, It’s a pleasure to meet you.” This is formal and can be used in a business setting.

Pleased to meet you.

만나서 반갑습니다

(Mann-a-seo-bahn-gap-seup-ni-da)

This expression sounds friendly, and is usually used after introducing yourself. Additionally if you are in a more formal setting you can say:

잘 부탁드립니다.

What is your name?

성함이 어떻게 되세요

(Seoung-hami-eotteoke-doeseyo)

You can use this phrase to ask a person who is older than you his or her name. Likewise it can also be used in formal settings such as the bank or in business meetings.

If the person is younger, you can use the informal version. Which is:

이름이 뭐예요.

This phrase is used in informal situations such as between friends and family.

제 이름은 “John” 입니다

(Je-ireum-eun….imnida)

This is a formal way to say your name and can be used in any situation. For example, meeting someone for the first time, in the bank or in the immigration office. Simply add your name in the middle of the phrase to complete the expression.
